Surf Life Saving Australia describes a Nippers morning as learning surf safety, lifesaving skills and ocean awareness through games, with group challenges and time on the sand and in the surf. Parents and guardians are encouraged to join in, including by cheering from the sand.
Surf Life Saving Queensland (state example) says sessions run weekly with in-water and sand-based activities. If the water is closed, the club may run modified sand-based activities or move to another location, and families can find out from their age manager or the club's website or social media.
Before any water activity, the Water Safety Supervisor must complete a risk assessment, and it is repeated regularly while the activity runs.
