The minimum weight of a coxswain of an Under 17 or Under 19 crew, wearing a racing uniform, is 45 kg. (For all other categories it is 55 kg.)
A coxswain under the minimum must carry deadweight to make up the difference. The deadweight shall not exceed 15 kg and must be placed as close as possible to the coxswain in the boat, without being attached to the coxswain. Coxswains need weigh in only once each race day, and a coxswain who fails to weigh in causes the crew to be excluded.
Age categories apply to coxswains in the same way as to rowers (except in Masters events).
