RCA's Rules of Racing do not use the word "junior" for competition categories. The junior-age categories are:
- Under 17: a rower or coxswain may compete as Under 17 until 31 December of the year in which they reach the age of 16.
- Under 19: a rower or coxswain may compete as Under 19 until 31 December of the year in which they reach the age of 18.
The next categories are Under 23 (until 31 December of the year they reach 22) and Senior (any age). Masters begin from the start of the year in which the rower reaches 21. Canada Games events follow the age eligibility approved by the Canada Games Council, and an Organizing Committee may hold events in different categories if it proposes them in its Regatta Package.
