For the 2025-26 season, the U15 division is open to players born in 2011 and later (U18 is 2008 and later; U13 is 2013 and later). Hockey Alberta's Regulations (Section B) also say:
- Overage players: an overage player may be permitted to register with a team in a lower age division. Eligibility only applies to a player who is one birth year older than the division's maximum and has a date of birth between November 1 and December 31 of that year. An 18-year-old can only be overage if still enrolled full time in high school. AA and AAA teams cannot register overage players. Exceptions for entry-level players with limited skills, or where there is no team of the right age division, go through Hockey Alberta's online form.
- Strengthening: Hockey Alberta can revoke an overage player's eligibility at any time before December 31 if the player is deemed to strengthen the team (for example by leading the team or league in points) or no longer meets the criteria.
- Proof of age: a player registering with an association for the first time must provide an official birth certificate recognized by the civil authorities in Alberta.
