Every player, including the goalkeeper, must wear a mouthguard in both the women's and men's games under World Lacrosse rules.
Girls' and women's lacrosse (Women's Field rules 6.A.5):
- It must be a professionally manufactured intra-oral mouthguard that covers all the teeth of the upper jaw, worn correctly.
- It may be any colour, including white or clear.
- It must not be altered to reduce protection, and field players must remove any protruding tabs.
- If a player is found without a mouthguard immediately after a goal is scored, the goal counts, and play restarts with a free position to the opponent at the centre line.
Boys' and men's lacrosse (Men's Field rules 17.1):
- It must cover all teeth of the upper jaw: a commercial mouldable product, or one custom-made by a dental professional.
- A highly visible colour (not white or clear) is recommended.
