Rise Gymnastics has three phases, each with its own award scheme:
| Phase | Who it's for | How awards work |
|---|---|---|
| Discover | Pre-school children, from walking age to school age | Three ability levels delivered through themes (such as dinosaurs, outer space or under the sea). Each award needs 12 of the 16 skills |
| Explore | School-aged recreational gymnasts | Three strands (Core Skills, Apparatus, Working Together), each with 4 levels. Each award needs 8 of the 12 skills |
| Excel | Experienced, ambitious recreational gymnasts, leading to festivals, competitions and discipline pathways | Four strands (Core Skills, Small Apparatus, Large Apparatus, Working Together), each with 3 levels. Core Skills awards need 10 of 14 skills; the others need 7 of 10 |
Gymnasts progress through each strand independently, and earn a medal and certificate for each level. Discover themes also have their own certificates for effort and attendance.
Clubs choose which phases and strands they deliver, and can start a gymnast at any point based on their physical, social and emotional maturity. Excel level 3 overlaps with the national development pathways in several disciplines, so gymnasts can move across into competitive pathways.
