Under Boxing Canada's Articles and Rules (January 2025), a boxer's category is set using their year of birth (except in Funbox):
- Funbox: ages 6 to 12 (mandatory for ages 6-10).
- U13 (Junior A): ages 11-12.
- U15 (Junior B): ages 13-14.
- U17 (Junior C): ages 15-16.
- U19 (Youth): ages 17-18.
- Elite: ages 19-40. An 18-year-old may compete up in Elite only if they are Open, have at least 10 bouts in their book and the Technical Delegate (or ring supervisor) believes they are sufficiently prepared.
U13, U15 and U17 boxers are not permitted to compete up into the next category. Boxing Canada holds annual National Championships for U17 and U19 (and Elite and U23); only Open class boxers may take part.
