Junior age groups are set by date of birth, with ages taken at 1 September 2026:

| Under 16 | 1 Sep 2010 and 31 Aug 2012 |
| Under 14 | 1 Sep 2012 and 31 Aug 2014 |
| Under 12 | 1 Sep 2014 and 31 Aug 2017 |
Players born before 1 September 2008 are in the older categories (Under 21, Under 23 and Senior), which play in senior competitions. A player with a particular need can apply for an exception under Basketball England's Eligibility and Participation Exemption Policy, with supporting evidence.
