Playing up. A player can play in their own age group and any older one, but each age group has a minimum age:
| Age group | Youngest players allowed |
|---|---|
| Under 12 | School Year 5 (turning 10 from 1 September 2026) |
| Under 14 | School Year 6 (turning 11) |
| Under 16 | School Year 8 (turning 13) |
| Under 18 | School Year 10 (turning 15) |
| Senior | Must already be 15 |
More than one team. An under-18 player can be licensed for at most two teams at once, across all competitions (Junior NBL, Senior NBL and the British championships). The two teams must be in different age groups or competitions. They can change during the season through an intra-club transfer.
A junior player whose club also has a "parent" senior team may only play senior National League basketball for that senior team.
Fielding a player who breaks these rules means the fixture is forfeited and the club is fined.
