Baseball Canada's Rally Cap manual says most coaches at this level are parents or guardians, and many are coaching or playing baseball for the first time. The practice plans are designed to give them everything they need.
Parents can help in these ways, all from the manual:
- Parent helpers: assistant coaches and parent helpers take their cues from the coach, and Baseball Canada says it wants to recruit new coaches, parent helpers and volunteers through the program.
- Joining in: coaches are encouraged to promote interaction between parents and athletes during sessions, and several activities (such as base-running games) invite parents and guardians to join in.
- Partners in drills: some receiving and throwing drills suggest a parent as the partner.
The manual says each child's ability is individual and progression happens at their own rate through experience and effort.
