What does my child learn in Tackers 3 (Sailing Fast!)?

Tackers 3 is the advanced level: a recommended 20 hours for children who are water confident, aged 7 to 12, and have completed Tackers 2. It builds on Tackers 2 with advanced sailing skills taught through games and on-water adventures, and introduces racing. By the end, children should be able to:
- demonstrate roll tacking and gybing, and explain the theory behind them
- stop the boat in a confined area for a period of time
- sail backwards
- explain gybing theory and demonstrate it downwind
- show sound knowledge of the five essentials: centreboard position, boat trim, boat balance, course made good and sail trim
- start and finish races on triangle and trapezoid courses
- use tactical mark roundings in races
Children receive a Tackers 3 completion certificate.
