The ACA National Competition Rules 2026-27 say alpine skiing helmets are compulsory at all events, and helmets must have no spoilers or protruding parts. The rule that helmets comply with FIS equipment specifications is written for U14 and older.
Alpine Canada's Learn to Train equipment guide says U12-stage racers should wear a properly fitting hard-shell helmet for giant slalom, super G and kombi ski cross. Fit checks: pads flush against cheeks and forehead, chin strap fastened and snug, front level just above the eyebrows, no shifting when the head moves, and comfortable with goggles. Replace a helmet when it is worn or damaged. "Helmets do not last forever or until a child grows out of their helmet."
