Alpine Canada's LTAD guidance for the Learn to Train stage (U12) lists these competition formats:
- Giant slalom and slalom, often in sprint format with several runs per day
- Panel slalom and dual "team" events
- Kombi events: Kinder Ski Cross, GS/SL and SG/GS
- Super G and speed elements such as a timed glide track or jump contest
- Fun moguls and free ski competitions
Club races expose skiers to all disciplines. Courses follow the provincial course-setting guidelines for U10 and U12.
As one provincial example, Alpine Ontario's U12 events are slalom, giant slalom and Kombi, plus dual and shorter-gate formats and ski cross elements. Each athlete makes two runs, gates are 60-inch kinder gates or stubbies, and race days are paired with a skills festival.
