SAIDS recommends asking your doctor or pharmacist first, then double-checking yourself:
- SAIDS Medication Check: an online search on drugfreesport.org.za covering medicines sold in South Africa, based on the 2026 Prohibited List (in force from 1 January 2026). Type the medicine's name carefully.
- Mobile app: available from the SAIDS website for Android and iPhone.
- Phone: SAIDS on (021) 686 1634, including for medicines not found in the tool.
What the Medication Check does not cover: dietary and sport supplements, herbal products, traditional medicines and unregulated products such as CBD oils. SAIDS warns against these because their contents and labels may be inaccurate.
Remember that the Prohibited List changes every year on 1 January, so re-check regular medicines each year. Tell any doctor treating your child that they are an athlete who can be tested.
