Rule 7-6-3g (new for 2026-27): when you stop wrestling because the wrestlers went out of bounds from the neutral position, make one of four calls, each with its own new signal (Official Wrestling Signals #16a-d):
- Stalling for leaving the wrestling area.
- Stalling for pushing or pulling the opponent out of bounds.
- Stalling for backing out of the wrestling area.
- Wrestling action was taking place (no stalling).
The point is to show wrestlers, coaches and fans clearly whether you're calling edge-of-mat stalling or ruling legitimate action.
Heel to buttocks (5-24-4b): holding the heel to the buttocks while the defender is broken down on the mat for more than five seconds is stalling. New for 2026-27: you must signal and say out loud the five-second count.
Inbounds: since 2024-25, wrestlers are inbounds with one point of contact by either wrestler inside or on the boundary line.
