Protests:
- Protests about an official's decision go in writing to the meet referee. The referee reviews allowable evidence, such as umpires' written reports, notifies the affected coach, and has results revised and announced if needed.
- Where a jury of appeals is appointed, a coach can appeal the referee's application or interpretation of a rule.
- Deadlines: misapplication of a rule, within 30 minutes of results being announced. Clerical or scoring errors, up to 48 hours after the meet. Ineligible participants, whenever discovered. The games committee can set other deadlines in advance.
- Not protestable: judgment calls on alleged violations, finish judge or timer decisions that don't involve misapplying a rule, and whether a start was fair and legal.
Video: replay or TV monitoring equipment, other than official finish line equipment approved by the games committee before competition, can't be used to make meet decisions. Officials may use wireless communication devices (Rule 3-2-7).
Referee authority: the referee keeps authority until all reports are completed, including disqualifications, for actions that happened while the referee had jurisdiction (Rule 3-4-2).
