- Who can protest: a Member Club that believes it or one of its entries has been unfairly dealt with in an event can file an Official Protest with the Competition Committee. All communication is through the club's official spokesperson or alternate.
- Timing: verbal notification to the Chief Official within 15 minutes after the event under protest is completed. Written details, on an Official Protest Form from the Competition Manager, within 45 minutes after completion. An event is completed when the Referee signals it.
- Fee: $50 is invoiced to the club for every unsuccessful protest at the end of the competition. There is no fee for a successful one.
- Decision: the Committee must make every effort to decide within 2 hours of receiving the written protest. The burden of proof is on the protesting club to show, on the balance of probabilities, that it was treated unfairly. The Committee gives the club a written copy of its decision and its decisions are final.
- Not protestable: the Starter's decision on false starts is final, and no protests are allowed on it.
- Committee: the Chief Official, Chief Finish Line Judge and Competition Manager. It also verifies crew substitutions and can replace an absent or delinquent official.
- Judges and umpires: a finish judge may be asked for an opinion on events behind a protest. Decisions are not discussed with anyone other than the Competition Committee.
