Table 1 of the Athletics in Canada Officiating Policy (v1, June 2026) sets minimum event standards: Type of meet Sanctioning body Officials Chief Referees Results eligibility Local meet Branch No minimum Minimum Regional Provincial official Not eligible for AC rankings Provincial/territorial meet Branch Minimum Local Minimum Regional Provincial Referee, or a Provincial official acting as a Referee Eligible for AC and WA rankings* National meets (World Athletics Category C, D or E meets, and some provincial/territorial championships**) Branch and World Athletics Minimum Regional Minimum National Minimum 3 National Referees Eligible for AC and WA rankings National championship (World Athletics Category A and B meets) Branch and World Athletics Minimum Provincial Minimum National National Referee assigned to all event disciplines Eligible for AC and WA rankings The meet designations for officials credits are L, P, N and NC respectively. World Athletics rankings eligibility depends on the sanctioning application. ** Some provincial or territorial championships may be considered N meets if they meet the criteria in the Meet Designation for Officials document.
