Athletics Canada's officials training page describes a new unified national pathway effective January 1, 2027, and maps the current levels onto it:
| Current level | New level |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | Local |
| Level 2 | Regional |
| Level 3 (including Referees) | Provincial |
| Level 4 (including Referees) | National |
| Level 5 (including Referees) | National |
- Who delivers it: Branches deliver the Local, Regional and Provincial levels. Athletics Canada manages the National level and the Referee pathway in partnership with the Branches, supporting progression to international level (World Athletics Bronze, Silver and Gold).
- How officials advance: by attending clinics, earning competition credits, completing evaluations, working with experienced mentors and completing online learning tracked through the Athletics Canada Education Hub. Only sanctioned competitions count for credits.
- Mid-upgrade: officials partway through an upgrade should get guidance on the remaining requirements from their Provincial/Territorial Branch.
