Law 6.15: a match organiser may appoint a television match official (TMO), who uses technology to clarify:
- the grounding of the ball in in-goal
- touch or touch-in-goal in the act of grounding the ball or the ball being made dead
- whether a kick at goal was successful, where there is doubt
- an infringement in the playing area that may have led to a try or prevented one
- foul play, including sanctions
The TMO protocol then sets how far back the TMO may look for foul play and try-scoring reviews, and which infringements the TMO may call live.
