Where should I stand on the court?

With two referees, one is the lead and one is the trail.

• Lead: on the baseline the attacking team is heading towards, just outside the court, usually between the edge of the key and the sideline. You watch the players under and around the ring.
• Trail: on the sideline, a little behind the play and near the halfway line or the top of the three-point arc, on your left as you face the ring. You watch the ball handler, shots from outside, and players coming back into the backcourt.

When possession changes and play goes the other way, you swap: the trail becomes the new lead by running ahead of play to the far baseline, and the lead becomes the new trail.

Keep both teams between you, keep moving to get a clear view, and never stand still in the middle of the court where players run.
