When is the ball out of bounds, and who gets it?

The ball is out when it, or a player holding it, touches the floor on or outside the boundary line (the lines themselves are out), or touches anything outside the court, such as a bench, a wall or a person.
The team that didn't touch it last gets a throw-in from the spot nearest to where it went out, but never from directly behind the backboard.
Signal: blow the whistle, raise an open hand, then point in the direction the team receiving the ball is attacking. Hand the ball to the thrower (or bounce it to them). They have five seconds to pass it in, and must keep both feet out of the court until it's released.
If you and your partner can't tell who touched it last, it's a jump ball situation: use the possession arrow.
