When can teams make substitutions and call time-outs?

Coaches ask the scorer's table for a substitution or time-out. The table sounds the buzzer or signals you at the next opportunity, which is when the ball is dead and the clock is stopped (after a whistle).
- Substitution: the player coming on waits at the bench end of the scorer's table until you signal them on (forearms crossed, then wave them on). The player going off leaves straight away.
- Time-out: signal a "T" with your hands and tell both teams. Time-outs are usually one minute. Players go to their benches; you and your partner stand on court near the scorer's table.
After a made basket, the team that conceded can also be granted a time-out or substitution.
In Year 3, coaches are often encouraged to rotate players so everyone gets fair court time, so expect plenty of substitutions. Keep them quick.
