Gymnastics SA (GSA) makes safeguarding training compulsory for all adults in frequent contact with children, young adults and vulnerable people (GSA "Safeguarding training for Judges 2026").
- The required course for judges is Course 1: Welcome to Safeguarding Essentials, a free online course from The Open University (OpenLearn Create), endorsed by GSA. It takes about 1 to 2 hours including the test, and you earn a digital badge.
- Send your badge to your club leader or admin and copy support@sagf.co.za so your profile on the GSA management system is updated. The club uploads it to its GSA folder, after which a GSA certificate of compliance can be downloaded. GSA only accepts the certificate once this verification is complete.
- Under a regulation approved in 2025, safeguarding certificates are valid for four years.
