From the 2026 WTA Rulebook (the Rulebook does not name individual tournaments, so check the tournament for its exact draw size):
Main draw: made up of direct acceptances, qualifiers, wild cards and alternates.
Qualifiers: players who win through the qualifying competition. The number depends on the draw size, for example:
- 96-player main draw: 48-player qualifying (2 rounds), 12 qualifiers
- 48, 56 or 64 main draw: 32-player qualifying (2 rounds), 8 qualifiers
- 28, 30 or 32 main draw: 4 to 6 qualifiers
Wild cards: a WTA 1000 Mandatory 96-player main draw has 8 wild cards and a 48/56 draw has 4. A 48-player qualifying draw has 6 wild cards and a 24/32 draw has 4.
Lucky losers: players who lose in qualifying but are placed in the main draw to fill a vacancy, chosen by the round reached in qualifying and then WTA singles ranking.
Match format: qualifying singles are best of three tie-break sets.
