Penalties in the 2025-26 NLL rules:
- Minor: the player (except the goalie) is off the floor for 2 minutes. Possession goes to the team fouled (Rule 37).
- Bench minor: one player of the penalized team is removed for 2 minutes, served by the designated "in-home" player (37.3).
- Major: 5 minutes. The offender returns on the next non-technical stoppage after the penalty expires. A second major in the same game to the same player means a game misconduct (38).
- Misconduct: 10 minutes, and a substitute may replace the player immediately (39).
- Game misconduct: the player is out for the rest of the game and is subject to fine or suspension by the league. Three major penalties in a season (not counting fighting majors) bring a game misconduct (40, 40.1). Three game misconducts bring a one-game suspension, with one more game for each further one (40.2).
- Match penalty: the player is out for the rest of the game and is ordered to the dressing room. It brings an automatic one or two game suspension and a five-minute penalty served by the in-home player (41).
- Technical penalties: less serious violations of the rules that are not listed as minor, bench minor, major, misconduct or match penalties (36).
A goalie cannot be the in-home player. Penalties assessed to a goalie are served by the in-home player or another player (24.2, 38.4).
