Under Law 12.4 (2026/27), a player is cautioned for:
- dissent by word or action
- delaying the restart excessively, for example kicking or carrying the ball away, or being slow to leave when substituted
- entering, re-entering or deliberately leaving the field without the referee's permission
- not respecting the required distance at a free kick, corner, throw-in or dropped ball
- persistent offences (no set number counts as "persistent")
- unsporting behaviour, which includes simulation (diving or feigning injury), stopping a promising attack with a foul or handball, verbally distracting an opponent, and showing a lack of respect for the game
- entering the referee review area, or excessively making the "TV screen" signal
Goal celebrations earn a yellow card, even if the goal is disallowed, for removing the shirt or covering the head with it, wearing a mask, climbing the perimeter fence, or acting in a provocative way. Two yellow cards in the same match mean a red card.
