Every Hockey One match must have an outright result, so a match level at full time goes to a shoot-out, starting no later than five minutes after the end of regulation time.
- Five players from each team take a one-on-one shoot-out alternately against the other team's goalkeeper (or defending player), ten shoot-outs in total.
- A coin toss decides which team takes or defends first.
- The ball starts on the nearest 23 metre line opposite the centre of the goal. The attacker has 8 seconds from the starting signal.
- The shoot-out ends when 8 seconds pass, a goal is scored, the attacker commits an offence, or the ball goes over the back-line or side-line. If the goalkeeper commits an unintentional offence the shoot-out is retaken; if the offence is intentional a penalty stroke is awarded.
- If the 8 second clock or PA system fails, the shoot-out is retaken regardless of the outcome.
- The team that scores more goals (or leads by more than the other team has shoot-outs left) wins.
The winner of the shoot-out gets one bonus point.
