What is the Power Surge in the WBBL, and when can it be taken?

The playing conditions give each innings two kinds of fielding restriction overs, with a maximum of 2 fielders outside the fielding restriction area (a 23 metre, 25.15 yard semi-circle at each end) in both:

• Powerplay: the first 4 overs of each innings.
• Floating overs (the Power Surge): a block of 2 consecutive overs taken at the discretion of the batters at the wicket, between the end of the 10th over and the beginning of the 19th over.

Batters must nominate the floating overs no later than the moment the umpire reaches the stumps at the bowler's end for the start of the next over, and the decision cannot be reversed. If the batting side does not choose, the floating overs start automatically at the beginning of the 19th over.

In all other overs, a maximum of 4 fielders are permitted outside the fielding restriction area.
