The delivery after a No ball is a free hit for whichever batter is facing it. If the free hit delivery is itself a No ball or a Wide, the next delivery is also a free hit.
- On a free hit the striker can be dismissed only in the ways that apply to a No ball, even if the delivery is called a Wide.
- The fielding side cannot change its field for a free hit, except when the striker changes, when the No ball was a fielding restriction breach (the field can be changed only to correct the breach), or when the umpires believe a fielder is in a dangerous position (that fielder can move back in a straight line to about 15 metres from the batter).
- The bowler can change their mode of delivery for the free hit.
- The umpire signals a free hit by extending one arm straight upwards and moving it in a circular motion after the normal No ball signal.
