If both innings are completed with the scores level, the match is a tie (wickets lost are not counted) and the teams play a Super Over.
- It is played on the scheduled day, normally starting 5 minutes after the match ends, with a 5-minute interval between innings.
- Each team bats for one over, unless all out earlier. The team that batted second in the match bats first.
- Only the starting 11 (plus any activated Concussion Substitute) can take part.
- The fielding side chooses which end to bowl from, and the opening batters cannot be changed once they enter the field.
- Each team's over is played with the same fielding restrictions as the last over of the match.
- Each team is allowed one unsuccessful Player Review per innings of the Super Over, regardless of how many it made in the main match.
- The team with the most runs wins, regardless of wickets lost.
If the Super Over is also tied: in a home and away match it stays a tie and is scored under the points rules; in a finals match (including The Final) further Super Overs are played until there is a winner, each starting 5 minutes after the last, with the team that batted second in the previous one batting first.
In finals, 30 minutes of extra time (from the start of the Super Over) is allowed. If delays use it up, the Super Over process is abandoned and the team that finished higher on the points table wins. Cricket Australia can also limit the number of Super Overs when it has unavoidable time constraints, such as double-header semi-finals.
