Under regulation 35 of the Boxing Regulations, when a bout goes the full scheduled distance:
- The winner is decided by a majority of the three judges. Each judge's verdict is based on their total points across all rounds, not on how many rounds each boxer won. So a 3-0 or a 2-1 verdict in a boxer's favour wins the fight.
- It is a draw if:
- all three judges score it a draw;
- two judges score a draw and the third picks a winner; or
- one judge scores a draw and the other two pick different winners.
- In a fight for a vacant title, each judge must nominate a winner, so there is always a majority winner.
- If a title defence is drawn, the champion keeps the title.
If the bout ends early, the referee alone gives the decision, and it is final.
