- Event organisers
Subject to the controlling body's rules, the event organiser or stadium/venue owner may require spectators to buy tickets (s19). If tickets are sold:
- Entry is only by a valid ticket issued by the organiser, the stadium/venue owner or an authorised agent, or with their written permission.
- Capacity: the total of tickets plus written permissions must not exceed the safe spectator capacity set by the local authority for that event.
- What every ticket must show, at minimum:
- the name of the area and the stadium or venue
- the nature of the event
- the date, day and time
- a layout plan with block or sector orientation information
- the conditions of entry
- Sales on the day: the National Commissioner (SAPS) may prohibit ticket sales at the stadium or venue on the day. If day-of sales are allowed at a high-risk event, they must happen at least 1 km from the stadium or venue, or at a location set by the event safety and security planning committee.
Touting and complimentary tickets (s5(2))
Without the organiser's or stadium/venue owner's prior written authorisation, nobody may, for a commercial purpose, buy tickets to resell, sell or promote tickets, use tickets in advertising or hospitality and travel packages, or sell or dispose of complimentary tickets. This is an offence carrying up to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
