A licence is only issued to a minor if a parent, step-parent, adoptive parent, court-appointed legal guardian or curator signs the licence application and indemnity on the MSA system (GCR 130).
At events, the 2026 MSA National Rotax Karting Regulations (7.1.1) allow a parent or legal guardian who cannot act as entrant to nominate, in writing and signed, either:
- another parent or guardian whose own minor child is in the same event, or
- an adult competitor in the same event.
The nomination must reach the Secretary of the Meeting before competition starts. The Stewards or Clerk of the Course can ask why, and can accept or reject the proxy. The entrant is responsible for making sure everyone connected with the entry follows the rules.
