Every driver and entrant needs an MSA competition licence, applied for online through the MSA system (GCRs 125 to 130). Karting licences (2026 MSA National ROK Sporting Regulations 4.2):
| Licence | Valid for |
|---|---|
| Club | Club events only |
| Regional | Regional and club events |
| National | National, regional and club events |
| International | Issued under FIA Karting rules; also needs MSA start permission to race abroad |
To get a licence you must:
- be a paid-up member of an MSA-affiliated karting club;
- sign the online indemnity (a parent or guardian signs for a minor);
- submit MSA's medical fitness form (a false declaration can lead to disqualification);
- meet the class age rules, and produce a birth certificate for a junior on demand.
National Championship rounds need at least a National licence. Licences run from issue to the end of the calendar year. One-event licences are also available for some events. Present your licence at documentation before the event.
