UKHSA's advice for children outdoors in hot weather:
- Shade: encourage children to stay in the shade as much as possible.
- Sun cream: use sunscreen of at least SPF 30 with a UVA rating of 4 or more stars. Apply it generously and reapply every 2 hours, and after swimming or towelling.
- Clothing: loose, light-coloured clothing helps children stay cool, and wide-brimmed sunhats help prevent sunburn.
- Relax uniform rules: UKHSA advises relaxing uniform rules in hot weather, especially during amber or red Heat-Health Alerts. For sport, that means being flexible on kit where your competition rules allow.
