What sanctions can apply if a coach breaches the UCCMS?
Rule- Canada
- UCCMS
- Universal Code of Conduct
- Safe sport
- Maltreatment
- Version 7.0
- 2025
- Coaches
- Assistant coaches
- Officials
Section 7.2 lists these sanctions, any one or more of which may be imposed once Prohibited Behaviour is confirmed:
- Verbal or written apology
- Verbal or written warning
- Education (specified educational or remedial measures)
- Probation (loss of privileges or other conditions for a set period)
- Suspension, for a set time or until further notice, from participation in any capacity in any program, practice, activity, event or competition organized or sanctioned by any Adopting Organization or its members
- Eligibility restrictions (some types of participation prohibited, others allowed under strict conditions)
- Permanent ineligibility
- Other discretionary sanctions, such as loss of privileges, loss of the right to attend or spectate events, no-contact directives, a fine or a payment to compensate for direct losses
Progressive discipline is not required: a single occurrence of Prohibited Behaviour can lead to a very significant sanction. Sanctions must be proportionate and reasonable, and Section 7.4 lists factors such as whether the Respondent poses an ongoing threat to others, admission and cooperation, previous violations, and the desired outcomes of the people directly affected. Before a case is resolved, temporary or provisional measures may be imposed under the Adopting Organization's policies.
