Becoming a certified coach starts with the Instructor course, described by Tennis Canada as step one of the coaching journey. The steps on the Become a Coach page:
- Sport Safety compliance: Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders module, background check, Declaration of Good Character and a signed Code of Conduct.
- Online modules: the Instructor modules (Quality Standards for Kids Tennis), Make Ethical Decisions training and evaluation, and two half-day webinars of 3 hours each.
- In-person training and evaluation: four days, 32 hours in total.
- Certificate and upkeep: you receive your certificate and keep your status through Sport Safety upkeep and ongoing professional development.
The Instructor course page lists the course as 35 hours over 5 days across two weekends, so the two pages count the days differently.
