Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018 applies to "sport organizations" as defined in the Act, which Ontario says can include public and private sport clubs, post-secondary institutions and municipalities throughout Ontario. It covers amateur competitive sport. Post-secondary institutions must not register any athlete, regardless of age, unless the requirements are met. School boards are covered separately by the Ministry of Education's policy PPM 158 (School Board Policies on Concussion).
Key dates: the annual awareness-resource review and codes of conduct took effect on July 1, 2019; the removal-from-sport and return-to-sport protocols took effect on January 1, 2022.
