From the Official Rules and Case Book of Ringette (2025-2027):
Blue line (Rule 8.4): the ring must be passed, shot with the stick, deflected, batted or legally kicked to another player across each blue line. A ring on or touching a blue line is in both zones and is playable by all eligible players. For skaters, the position of the ring (not the player or the stick) decides blue line violations.
- If the last player to contact the ring while it is entirely on one side of a blue line then controls it entirely on the other side before anyone else touches it, play is stopped immediately.
- If that player only contacts the ring on the other side, no player from that team may contact or control it within five seconds or before the ring completely leaves that zone.
Two blue line pass (Rule 8.5): the ring may not be passed to a teammate directly from the defending zone to the attacking zone. If a teammate of the last player to touch it in the defending zone controls the ring in the attacking zone before an opponent touches it, play is stopped immediately. If the teammate only contacts it, no player from that team may contact or control the ring within five seconds of an opponent touching it, or before the ring completely leaves that zone.
Blue lines are marked 19.50 m (64 ft) from each goal line on rinks 56.39 m (185 ft) or longer; on shorter rinks they divide the area between the goal lines into three equal parts (Rule 3.2).
