These are the NSWRL Weight and Age Guidelines, which apply to tackle competitions in NSW.
Playing down one age group. A player can apply to play one age group below their natural age (the age they turn in the current calendar year) if they are at or under the weight limit (based on roughly the 15th percentile of males):
| Natural age group | At or under | May play |
|---|---|---|
| Under 13 | 42 kg | Under 12 (not in a mixed-gender competition) |
| Under 14 | 48 kg | Under 13 |
| Under 15 | 53 kg | Under 14 |
| Under 16 | 55 kg | Under 15 |
| Under 17 | 58 kg | Under 16 |
| Under 18 | 60 kg | Under 17 |
| Turning 19 | 62 kg | Under 18 |
- Approval is for one season only, and NSWRL can review and remove it at any time.
- A player who plays down cannot play in their natural age group the same season.
- Players apply to their League and are weighed by an NSWRL-appointed official. Once verified they are not weighed again that season.
