Under NFHS Rule 4-2-1, an athlete may compete in up to four events, including relays.
- A note added in 2024 lets each state association set a different limit, up to a maximum of six events, so the limit in your state may be higher than four.
- State associations also differ in the details. For example, Iowa counts preliminary rounds, and Georgia uses a tiered limit on individual events and relays.
