The NCCP has three coaching streams:
- Community Sport: for participants of any age who play for enjoyment. Beginner coaches often start here.
- Competition: develops competitive abilities over the long term for participants of all ages. Former athletes and experienced regional coaches often work here.
- Instruction: teaches sport-specific skills to participants of various ability levels, mainly in non-competitive settings.
Each stream has three contexts: Initiation/Ongoing (Community Sport), Introduction/Development/High Performance (Competition), and Beginners/Intermediate/Advanced (Instruction). Each national sport organization decides the entry points, prerequisites and possible movements within its sport's NCCP contexts.
