The possession line gives the team taking a goal kick space to play out from the back. All opponents start behind it.
| Format | Goal kick taken from | Where opponents must start |
|---|---|---|
| 3v3 | The spot between the two goals | Behind the halfway line |
| 5v5 | Within or on the edge of the 6m box | Behind the halfway line, marked by flat spots or cones on the sideline |
| 7v7 | Within or on the edge of the 9m box | Behind a possession line one third of the pitch length, marked by flat spots or cones on the sideline |
| 9v9 | Inside the 30m x 12m box | Outside the box |
| 11v11 | The 6-yard line | Outside the 18-yard box |
In 3v3, 5v5 and 7v7 the goal kick can be dribbled or passed in.
