Under the Irish FA Youth Football Framework, every player should play at least half of the total game time in every format. Substitutions are rolling, so players can go back on after being taken off.
| Format | Max subs waiting per team | Longest a sub should wait |
|---|---|---|
| 3v3 (Under 6-Under 7) | 2 | Not stated |
| 5v5 (Under 8-Under 9) | 3 | 5 minutes |
| 7v7 (Under 10-Under 11) | 4 | Half the game |
| 9v9 | 5 | Half the game |
| 11v11 | 6 | Half the game |
Position rotation:
- 5v5: players rotate positions each game, and a nominated goalkeeper must play at least one game outfield.
- 7v7: players rotate positions each game, and a nominated goalkeeper must play at least one period outfield.
