Hockey WA's Junior 5/6 divisions (school Years 5 and 6) have these modifications to the FIH Rules of Hockey:
- Games: 4 quarters of 12 minutes.
- Coaches: in Divisions 2 to 5, the coach may move around the field between the 23m lines, but only before the seventh fixture week, and only if it doesn't disrupt the game or intimidate players or umpires. An umpire can ask an intimidating coach to leave the field. In Division 1 coaches must stay off the field.
- No overheads: players must not attempt an overhead or play at the ball with their stick above the shoulder. The opposition gets a free hit.
- Penalty corners: defenders are not penalised for entering the circle before the ball is played. If an umpire judges a break and there is no advantage, the corner is replayed.
- Dangerous play: umpires enforce this more strictly. It includes lifting the ball or stick so that it causes legitimate evasive action, entering a contest from the wrong side, using the reverse edge (tomahawk) so that the lifted stick or ball causes evasive action, and swinging the stick from behind the player in possession. Each is a free hit.
- Finals: there are no finals in Junior 5/6.
A goalkeeper in protective headgear, leg guards and kickers is still required.
