Cricket Australia's guide describes five variations of participation, to be considered in consultation with the participant. The model may be transitional as people explore the best fit.
- No modifications: training or the match proceeds unchanged for everyone. A player with disability may choose to play regular club formats.
- Minor modifications: small changes to support everyone, temporary or ongoing. Example: a brightly coloured ball for a player with low vision.
- Major adaptations: larger or more specific changes to equipment, rules or uniforms, based on the participant's needs and preferences.
- Dedicated opportunity: teams exclusively for people with disability, such as an all-abilities competition or carnival, or a Blind Cricket team at a local club. The guide says to run these with a united approach, with parallel or aligned activities across the club, and that a next-step or transition program may help.
- Non-playing role: volunteering or becoming a club official.
The guide encourages all clubs and associations to have these choices available.
