Environment and Climate Change Canada says to:
- Move away from tall objects such as trees, poles, wires and fences.
- Shelter in a low-lying area, watching for flooding.
- In a forest, shelter in a low area under a dense cluster of small trees or bushes.
- Avoid being the highest point in an open area. Golf clubs and umbrellas can make you a target.
- Stay away from conductive objects such as golf carts, metal fences, lawnmowers and bicycles.
- If on or in water, get to shore as quickly as possible and stay out of boats and water when a storm threatens.
A hard-topped or all-metal vehicle is safe during lightning, but do not step out if power lines may be touching it.
