What NCCP basketball certification do I need for coaching ages 12-16?
Guideline- Canada
- Canada Basketball
- NCCP
- Youth basketball
- Ages 12-16
- U13-U15
- 2026-27
- Coaches
Canada Basketball's NCCP pathway is based on the Long-Term Development model, and you can start at the stage you currently coach:
- Community Sport, ages 6-9: FUNdamentals (FUN), for coaches with basic experience in non-competitive settings; also suitable for parents and Jr. NBA program coaches.
- Competition Introduction, ages 8-16: Learn to Train (L2T, ages 8-12), then Train to Train (T2T, ages 12-16). L2T is a prerequisite for T2T.
- Competition Development, ages 15-22: Train to Compete (T2C).
For athletes aged 12-16, the matching course is Train to Train. Canada Basketball says these ages are guidelines only and coaches may pursue further certification than recommended.
