The Make Ethical Decisions (MED) online evaluation is an NCCP requirement for all sports, and Canada Basketball says all coaches must complete it within their NCCP pathway.
Train to Compete (T2C), for coaches of athletes aged 15-22, has three Canada Basketball modules: Teaching Basketball Skills (15-17 hours), Strategies and Tactics (15-17 hours) and Planning (12-14 hours). It also requires six multi-sport workshops taken through the provincial or territorial coaching organization: Coaching and Leading Effectively; Managing Conflict plus online evaluation; Leading Drug-Free Sport; Developing Athletic Abilities; Prevention and Recovery; and Psychology of Performance.
A FIBA coaching licence requires Train to Compete or Level 3 certification plus a passed MED evaluation, and is required for coaching national team programs or FIBA competitions. Apply by contacting certification@basketball.ca for the form.
